Kids travel free this September


Ferry travel to Rotto is free, with no island admission fees to pay

For a limited time, kids can travel to Rottnest Island for the day for free, with no island admission fee to pay. It’s our way of sharing more fun and smiles with families who visit Rotto for the day.

For our loyal Quokka Club members, all you need to do is book your free ferry travel to Rottnest Island and quote your Quokka Club membership number at time of booking.

Not a Quokka Club member? Head over to our Quokka Club page where we explain the benefits of being a Quokka Club member, sign up there for free, then use your new membership number at time of booking to get your child fare free*.

To book your free ferry travel to Rottnest Island, you’ll need to sign up to Quokka Club first. Head to the Quokka Club website for further information.

Holiday smiles start with our Quokka Club membership

For the month of September only, children under 12 travel completely free when signed up to our Quokka Club rewards program! 

Sign your children up to our Quokka Club and their ferry travel is free. The island admission fee is usually payable, however, from 1 September to 30 September 2021, this is free for kids aged 4-12 years.

Quokka Club members receive a complimentary drink and snack on their first journey, a Quokka Club Passport, stamp rewards with every journey, and other on-island member discounts to make the most of your day on the Island.

Terms and Conditions

  • The “Kids travel free for the month of September” promotional offer is valid for up to two children (4 – 12 years) same day return ferry fares with a full-priced adult same day return ferry fare.
  • Bookings must be made during the promotional period from 1 September 2021 – 30 September 2021 for travel to Rottnest Island between 1 September 2021 – 30 September 2021.
  • Promotion applies to a same-day, return ferry service from Fremantle (Northport and B Shed Terminals) or Perth (Barrack Street Jetty Terminal).
  • The free child ferry fare must be for travel on the same day as the full-priced adult ferry fare.
  • Promotion applies to the ferry-only component of the booking.
  • The Rottnest Island Authority Admission Fee is payable for the full priced adult same day return ferry fare.
  • Fares are subject to availability.
  • Only valid for new bookings.
  • Promotion fares are non-refundable and non-transferable (can be cancelled and the credit used towards a full fare).

Quokka Birthday

The birthday celebration of the year is here! The adorable Quokka joeys are starting to venture out of their mums pouches and make their way into the world! To celebrate, for the month of September, Rottnest Island is celebrating the quokka’s birthday! From wildlife tours to photography workshops and a self-guided treasure hunt, not to mention a special birthday party event on 19 September!

Family friendly ways to spend your day on Rottnest Island

Get to know the friendly locals; There are 10 000 friendly Quokkas who call Rottnest Island home. Come over for the day and you’ll be sure to make some new furry friends.

Embark on a true adventure of the Island on the Wadjemup Bidi. Immerse yourself in Rottnest Island’s breath-taking coastal headlands, spectacular inland lakes, and incredible wildlife on the Wadjemup Bidi.

Learn more about the rich history of Rottnest Island. Learn of imprisonment on the Island, the Islands contemporary milestones, and the history of this now, A-class Nature Reserve’s natural environment at the Wadjemup Museum.

Experience Rottnest Island at your own pace

The most popular way to get around Rottnest Island is by bike, there are few cars to worry about so the roads are safe for the whole family to explore. Hire a bike from us and it’ll be waiting for you as you disembark the ferry so you’ll have more time to explore. Cycle out to lighthouses, secluded bays and beaches, stop for a picnic and count quokkas as you go. From a ‘lap of the map’ to a short ride, cycling Rottnest is a great day out.

The majestic humpback whales have arrived at Rottnest Island so join us on our 90-minute Whale Watching Adventure Boat Tour for your chance to see the beauty of Rottnest and whales all in one day! Don’t miss out the whales are only here for a short time (until mid-November) so be sure to book your spot on our thrilling Adventure Boat Tour today. We have daily tours departing from the Rottnest Jetty (Berth 0) at 11:15 am starting mid-September.

See the best of Rottnest Island by bus

Jump onboard our Discover Rottnest bus, it’s a perfectly comfortable way to experience the beauty of this rugged isle. The 90-minute Discover Rottnest Tour visits the island’s most spectacular locations, with insightful commentary shining a light on Rotto’s unique flora, fauna, history and culture. You might even meet a quokka or two along the way.
