Express Surfing
Rotto’s surfers’ bible!
Welcome to Rottnest Island, on arrival you’ll notice the calm and tranquil waters of Thomson Bay, but the back of the Island promises some adrenalin pumping breaks! If you’re an avid surfer who is sick of the small Perth swells and crowds then Rotto is your kind of place!
Some of the WA’s best and most fierce surfing spots can be found on Rottnest Island. Waves on Rottnest, as a rule, are two to three times the size on Perth breaks.
A few of our crew are avid Rotto surfers and understand that getting your board to and from the Island in one piece is important. You can even ask them where the best spot is on the day.
They’ll almost certainly tell you that Strickland Bay, Salmon Bay and Stark Bay are popular breaks for surfers and body-boarders. Strickland Bay (Strico’s) has been ranked in the top 50 breaks in the world. For more information download our map showing all the best surfing spots.
