Express Snorkel Hire
Follow the trail
There are a number of snorkel trails around the Island that provide guidelines for both novices and experts alike. If you follow the Little Salmon Bay Snorkel Trail you’ll discover a marine wonderland in the brilliant blue waters. There are 10 underwater plaques to help you discover an amazing array of colourful marine life. The Rottnest Island Authority has put together a very useful map to unlock the secrets of this trail. It’s also well worth taking the plunge and following the Parker Point Marine Snorkel Trail. Below the surface you’ll discover the Island most extensive coral reef. The Pink Coral not only provides vibrant underwater colours but is also home to a variety of marine creatures.
The Rottnest Island Authority has a number of tips to help you make the most of your snorkeling experience:
-
Your environmental footprint — tread lightly!
- Enter the water from the sandy shore and avoid walking on the fragile reef top
- Never stand on the reef. Coral is very fragile and may never recover.
- Take nothing but photographs. All flora and fauna are protected in and out of the water.
- Take all rubbish with you.
- Snorkel Carefully.
- Be careful where you snorkel. Make sure that you have plenty of space to avoid touching the reef.
- Snorkel with a buddy and always let someone responsible know your plans.
- Be competent in the use of snorkel equipment and always check it before entering the water.
- Stay Safe
- Your safety is our concern but your responsibility
- Some marine animals are dangerous. Don’t put your hands into crevices or holes. Only snorkel in calm seas.
- Remember to slip on sunscreen (you can still get burnt underwater) and wear a rashi (underwater shirt).
