Unchanged for thousands of years, the coastline of Rottnest Island is a remote and wonderful place which very few (other than those visiting on private vessels) have the opportunity to experience.
Rottnest Express Eco tours were conceived to provide a unique experience to Rottnest Island visitors. These tours allow visitors to experience first-hand the many wonders of Rottnest.
Hosted by experienced and knowledgeable guides (who have worked in a marine and eco tourism environment and are familiar with spectacular Rottnest coastline), our tours enable visitors to get ‘up close and personal’ to the Island’s wildlife in their natural and unspoilt environment.
Our 12.5m Naiad Eco Express has been custom built for this type of exploration and has revolutionized the way tourists experience nature. No other design comes close for speed, safety, comfort and ease of viewing. The craft is designed for environmental cruising – covered open air seating gives close interaction with nature while tiered forward facing seating creates an all round view for everyone on board.
An eco tour on the Naiad provides a complete intimate eco experience. Unlike other tour boats, the relationship between the operator and the passengers is not removed. All passengers have a clear view of their surrounds in the open air, whilst the operator at the rear of the vessel has full view of all the occupants, ensuring that the safety and care of all passengers is maintained.
Passengers board the Eco Express adventure in Thompson Bay and cruise on around to venture into untouched, undiscovered areas of Rottnest Island without impacting on the precious environment. On each tour passengers are likely to experience dolphins, seals, whales at certain times of the year, a myriad of bird life and experience through the eyes of our qualified crew how the island was formed and the magic of Rottnest Island’s unique coral reef and limestone geology.

About Eco Tourism Australia
Ecotourism Australia states that “Ecotourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation”.
Ecotourism Australia was formed in 1991 as an incorporated non-profit organisation, and is the peak national body for the ecotourism industry. Their vision is “To be leaders in assisting ecotourism and other committed tourism operations to become environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and socially and culturally responsible”.
Ecotourism Australia believes that the ultimate definition of ecotourism is compliance with the core criteria stated within the Eco Certification Program (which Rottnest Express has achieved). Tourism operators in Australia who have their tour, attraction or accommodation accredited under the Eco Certification Program can genuinely claim to provide authentic ecotourism product and this will be the central theme of the proposed Soft Adventure Activity.
The Association has a diverse membership that includes key industry sectors and including ecotourism accommodation, tour and attraction operators; tourism planners; protected area managers; academics and students; tourism, environmental, interpretation and training consultants; local and regional tourism associations and travelers.
